ABOUT ME
Matilda is a dynamic presenter, engaging storyteller, passionate disability advocate, and a proud user of eye-gaze Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) technology.
Navigating the world in her wheelchair and communicating using her eyes, Matilda may be non-verbal - but she has a powerful voice and plenty to say.
Through her presentations, she offers honest, real-life insights into living with Cerebral Palsy, using assistive technology, accessing equipment, attending therapy and school, and embracing everyday life to the fullest.
Matilda’s mission is to educate and inspire. She aims to support therapists, educators, support workers, professionals, and anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the benefits and lived impact of AAC and inclusive practices.
Hey! I’m Matilda - a 17-year-old with a big smile, even bigger attitude, and epic stories to tell.
I roll through life in my wheelchair and chat with the world using my eye-gaze AAC device. It’s not just for talking - I use it to DM mates on Insta, crush levels on Candy Crush, stream YouTube, download books, and order a cheeky UberEats (fries always included).
I was born with Cerebral Palsy (Quadriplegia with Dyskinetic and Ataxic movement), which means my body has a mind of its own - but I’ve never let that stop me. Whether it's adapted skateboarding, assisted surfing, or chasing thrills on wheels, I’m all about turning “can’t” into “just watch me.”
I’m a passionate disability and inclusion advocate, proud public speaker, and big believer that communication comes in many forms - and that disability doesn't dim fun, ambition, or impact.
Lately, I’ve been shredding new ground (literally!) as an ambassador for all-abilities skateboarding and a committee member for Skate Advantage. We're breaking down barriers and building ramps to inclusion - with the help of our one-of-a-kind accessible skate frame. Because everyone deserves the chance to feel the rush of skating, no matter how they roll.
